Dr Trevor Lane - Education Director and Senior Publishing Consultant

Qualifications:

1995 - PhD Physiological Sciences, University of Oxford, UK

Born and educated in the United Kingdom, Dr Lane has over 20 years of experience helping authors communicate their research findings and ideas in English-language journals, conferences, reports, proposals, and social and mass media. He has a broad background in the biomedical sciences, having graduated with an MA in Biochemistry and Chemical Pharmacology and a PhD in Physiological Sciences (molecular and cellular biology of cancer) from the University of Oxford. He held postdoctoral research positions in clinical oncology and genetics in Hong Kong, after which he served in a variety of senior editorial roles in academic, research, and publishing institutions. He was the managing editor of several general and specialist medical journals based in Asia and the senior editor of two social science journals based in the United States. Most recently, he headed the knowledge exchange unit and taught science research communication at the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong.

Dr Lane is a member of the Royal Society of Biology, World Association of Medical Editors, Council of Science Editors, and Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators. He currently serves as an elected Council Member of the Committee on Publication Ethics. He holds a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Trinity College London and a Postgraduate Certificate in English Language Teaching from the University of Reading. He joined the Edanz Group as a Senior Editor in the Fukuoka office in 2015, and in 2016 was appointed the Education Director and Senior Publishing Consultant. Dr Lane regularly gives lectures and webinars, leads interactive workshops, and provides individual consultations in writing, presenting, reading, peer review, and publishing for researchers and students of all levels and disciplines.
